Screencasting on Chromebooks
Unfortunately, there is no built-in screen recording software in Chrome OS. However, there are definitely some great options to explore. Here are a few to consider.
1. Screencastify
This tool is an extension for the Chrome web browser that can be used to make screencasts. Click here to install Links to an external site., and then watch the video below to learn more. You can record with or without a webcam. The free version limits you to 5 minute recordings. The Pro version is $29 per year for teachers and includes unlimited recording times.
2. Loom for Education
Loom is an increasingly popular tool for screencasting in Chrome or in Chromebooks. If you sign up and register for an education account Links to an external site., you get access to a free Loom Pro account that includes unlimited recording times and some other goodies. 3. Screencast-o-matic
If you find you have problems with Screencastify or Loom, you can always experiment and try the Screencast-o-matic Chrome Extension. The free version does not really do much more than the free version of Screencastify, but it is another option if you want to take a look. You can record videos up to 15 minutes, and as many videos as you need on the free plan.
4. WeVideo
If your district has access to the premium version of WeVideo, you can also use the screen recorder that is built-in to that tool. This can be useful if you want to edit your screencast or combine it with other video clips. See video below. Note: screen recording is NOT available in the free plan.
